Career Training

Making a successful transition from education to work can be a difficult and often challenging process for many school leavers. The Board of STAMP realises this and has decided to make career training and guidance a part of the STAMP journey.

In coming to STAMP you will have the opportunity to discuss your career aspirations with suitably qualified staff and tailor your STAMP experience in view of your aspirations. During the Christian Education phase of STAMP, when you will be located at Gosford NSW, you will have the choice of either completing elective subjects or participating in distance learning via the Open Training and Education Network (OTEN) or a mix of both. The choice is yours.

What is OTEN?

As part of TAFE NSW - Western Sydney Institute, the Open Training and Education Network (OTEN) is the largest provider of distance education and flexibly-delivered programs in Australia . OTEN offers world-class distance education services and products to more than 35,000 students in over 250 TAFE NSW courses. Check them out at OTEN

Most courses give graduates nationally recognised qualifications through the  Australian Qualifications Framework  (AQF). Other specific-purpose courses are recognised by all of TAFE NSW.

You can download a copy of the OTEN course guide by clicking on this link [download OTEN pdf]

How OTEN and STAMP Relate?

Dedicated time will be allocated each day to allow you to participate in your OTEN work. For some students, who do not qualify for Youth Allowance or Austudy, there maybe a cost associated with the OTEN studies. You should go to the OTEN web site to check the costs.

There are a variety of courses to choose from in the OTEN catalogue and STAMP staff will help each student choose an appropriate course. Factors to be considered will be the student's career choices, ministry needs and personal areas of interest. Most OTEN courses will take the whole year to complete and come with recognized accreditation upon successful completion.

Should you choose to study an OTEN subject online then you will not be required to do the elective STAMP subjects. You will also be able to continue any OTEN modules during the field experience.

What Other Vocational Training Can I Access?

At STAMP you will be able to gain access to one-on-one career counseling. In addition we have a number of elective subjects designed to help you make Godly career choices. With the combination of elective subjects, the OTEN options and your hunger to learn, we can tailor an experience that will be beneficial for you.

Can I Get Financial Assistance If I Enrol In An OTEN Course?

Financial assistance may be available to you via Centrelink if you enrol in an OTEN course. This assistance is delivered via the Australian Government's Youth Allowance scheme. As a STAMP student you may be able to access this scheme if your OTEN course has sufficient hours to qualify you as a full-time student. The STAMP syllabus has been designed to give you enough time to complete OTEN work on a full-time basis.
